RENEW ADULT DRIVER LICENSE

  1. What You Need to Know

    • You can renew your Utah license six (6) months before the expiration date.
    • You can apply to renew your Utah license early if you provide proof of your absence from the state during the six (6) month period prior to the expiration date of your license.
    • If you renew before your 21st birthday, your license will still show minor; however, it will still be good for eight (8) years.  You would not be issued an "adult" driver license until on or after your 21st birthday.
  2. What You Need to Do

    • Fill out an online application and schedule an appointment to visit a driver license office.
    • When you arrive for your scheduled appointment, have your confirmation number ready to check in, and then you will take a photo.
    • After your photo, you will have a seat; when your number is called, you will present your documents to the examiner, take an eye test, and pay the non-refundable fee of $52.00 ($27.00 for 65 and older.)
    • If required (because of expiration, suspensions, or multiple citations), you will then take the written knowledge test.
  3. What You Need to Bring

    • Bring your current Utah driver license.
    • Bring two (2) documents providing proof of your Utah address if you have moved from the last known address on your Utah driver license.  You can avoid providing proof if you submit your address change online prior to your scheduled appointment.
  4. Complete the Application and Schedule an Appointment

  5. When Do I Get My License?

    • A temporary license with a photo will be issued on the same day.
    • The completed license with an 8-year expiration date will be mailed to you in approximately 4-6 weeks.
  6. Attention: By law, you may not possess more than one REAL ID-compliant certificate at a time (e.g., a Utah license and a Colorado ID.)
