Getting your first-time driving privilege card (DPC)

Not U.S Citizen, cannot establish legal/lawful presence, advanced parolee, 21 and over

There are several steps in the process of getting your license

  1. Get learner permit

    • Bring required documents to DLD appointment
    • Get permit to start practicing driving
  2. Take online Traffic Safety & Trends exam

    • Learner permit number required to register
    • Must pass with 100%
    Register and take exam
  3. Take driver education (required ages 15-18) OR prove 40 hours of practice driving and hold permit for 3 months (age 19 & over)

    • 10 hours of the practice driving must be after sunset
    Age 15-18: Get driver education information
    Age 19 and over: Get driver education information
  4. Take behind-the-wheel driving skills test

    Get driving test information

When you are ready for or have completed your driving skills test
