- Who Can Get One: If you are not a U.S. citizen but are legally in the country with approved status, you can qualify for a limited-term ID card.
- Not Eligible: Driving Privilege Card (DPC) applicants cannot get this ID card.
- Purpose: An ID card is for identification only and does not allow you to drive.

Gather your documents - must bring to appointment
- Proof of lawful presence and identity (name and date of birth.)
- A S.A.V.E. verification will be run to verify your document status (this process may take up to 14 days.) Get information on S.A.V.E verifications.
- If you need to have your documents translated into English, find a list of approved translators here
- Your social security card or proof of ineligibility to obtain a social security number.
- Two (2) forms of proof of your Utah address
- Proof of name change, if applicable
- Proof of lawful presence and identity (name and date of birth.)
At your appointment
- Have confirmation # ready to check in
- Get your picture taken
- Show documents
- Pay non-refundable fee of $23
- If under 16, have parent sign for you

When do I get my ID card?
- A temporary identification card with a photo will be issued on the same day.
- The completed identification card will have an expiration date of your legal presence document or five (5) years, whichever is sooner; or 1-year from the date of issuance if there is no expiration date, and will then be mailed to you in approximately 4-6 weeks.
Attention: By law, you may not possess more than one REAL ID-compliant certificate at a time (e.g., a Utah license and a Colorado ID.)
