REGULAR IDENTIFICATION CARD (ID)

  1. What You Need to Know

    If you are renewing and you have received a letter by mail indicating eligibility to renew online, click here.  If you have misplaced this letter and need the PIN number required to renew your ID card online, please call our Customer Service at 801.965.4437 or toll-free at 888.353.4224.

    Driving privilege card (DPC) applicants are not eligible for a Utah identification card.

  2. What You Need to Do

    • Fill out an online application and schedule an appointment to visit a driver license office.
    • When you arrive for your scheduled appointment, have your confirmation number ready to check in, and then you will take a photo.
    • After your photo, you will have a seat; when your number is called, you will present your documents to the examiner, and pay the non-refundable fee of $23.00.

  5. When Do I Get My ID Card?

    • A temporary identification card with a photo will be issued on the same day.  
    • The completed identification card with an expiration date of five (5) years will be mailed to you in approximately 4-6 weeks.
  6. Attention: By law, you may not possess more than one REAL ID-compliant certificate at a time (e.g., a Utah license and a Colorado ID.)

REGULAR IDENTIFICATION CARD (ID) - U.S. Citizen First Time Applicant

  1. Check If You Are Eligible for a Regular Utah ID Card

    • Resident of Utah
    • U.S. Citizen
    • Driving privilege card (DPC) applicants are not eligible for a Utah identification card.
  2. Fill Out Online Application and Make Appointment

    • Fill out an online application - everyone has to fill one out. Do it at home so you don't have to do it in the office
    • Schedule an appointment to visit a driver license office.
    • Walk-ins wait a lot longer!
  3. Gather Your Documents

    • Proof of identity (usually a birth certificate or passport)
    • Proof of your Social Security Number (usually a Social Security card)
    • Proof that you live in Utah (usually a utility or credit card bill)
    • Second form of proof that you live in Utah (usually a utility bill or credit card bill)
    • Bring all of these to your appointment
  4. Go to Your Appointment

    • Have confirmation # ready to check in
    • Get your picture taken
    • Show documents
    • Pay non-refundable fee of $23
    • If under 16, have parent sign for you

    • You'll get a letter saying you have to renew in person
    • You can only renew online every other time you renew
