Renew driver license in person - U.S. Citizen
General Info
- You can renew your Utah license six (6) months before the expiration date.
- You can apply to renew your Utah license early if you provide proof of your absence from the state during the six (6) month period prior to the expiration date of your license.
- UNDER 21: If you renew before your 21st birthday, your license will still show minor; however, it will still be good for eight (8) years. You would not be issued an “adult” driver license until on or after your 21st birthday.

Gather your documents - must bring to appointment
- Bring your current Utah driver license.
- Address change? Bring two (2) documents providing proof of your Utah address. Or, update your address online before your appointment.
- Name change? Bring proof of your new name.
At your appointment
- Have your confirmation number ready to check-in
- Have photo taken
- Present documents
- Take eye test
- Pay the non-refundable fee of $52.00 ($27.00 for 65 and older)
- If required (because of expiration, suspensions, or multiple citations), you will then take the written knowledge test.

When do I get my license?
- A temporary license with a photo will be issued on the same day.
- The completed license with an 8-year expiration date will be mailed to you in approximately 4-6 weeks.
