Gather your documents - must bring to appointment
- Proof of identity
- Proof of social security number
- Two (2) documents showing proof of Utah address
- Additional documents for name change (if applicable)
Study for your test
- At your appointment, you will have to take a 50-question written knowledge test
- Study for it with the Utah Driver Handbook
Take a practice testAt your appointment
- If under 18, bring parent or legal guardian to sign for you
- Have your confirmation number ready to check-in
- Have photo taken
- Present documents
- Take eye test
- Pay non-refundable fee of $19.00
- Take the 50-question written knowledge test
Drive with your permit - know the restrictions
Ages 15, 16, or 17 -You can drive a regular motor vehicle if:
- An adult next to you is a licensed parent, legal guardian, approved driving instructor, or responsible adult who signed for financial responsibility.
- You have your learner permit with you while driving.
- Other passengers can be in the vehicle.
Age 18+ - You can drive a regular motor vehicle if:
- An adult next to you is a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old.
- You have your learner permit with you while driving.
- Other passengers can be in the vehicle.
- You will receive your learner permit with a photo on the same day. [Is this true for limited term and DPC?]
- Renew your learner permit or replace a lost learner permit by paying a $19.00 fee and completing the application/appointment process again.
- All identification documents are on file and not required to obtain a renewal or replacement
